Starlings

Eugene Schieffelin thought it would be a good idea to introduce as many of Shakespeare’s birds as possible to North America, so on a cold winter day in Central Park…

Murmuration

Starlings are not the only birds that do it, but starlings are famous for their murmuration. Starlings create a murmuration when huge groups of these birds gather together, moving in one large mass across the sky.

They twist and turn into all directions and different shapes during flight to confuse predators and to keep warm.

This picture above shows where a murmuration of starlings flew into the side of a tractor trailer. More than 50 dead starlings, like the one to the right, were lying along the road.
